The Web has made it easier than ever to turn credible and innovative business ideas into reality.
The Synergy & Crowdfunding Forum (SCxSC) 2015 aims to explore issues of capital formation for young entrepreneurs in Malaysia, and the emergence of web-based innovations such as crowdfunding that will aid in connecting businesses to capital.
The forum is in its second installment this year and will feature an international speaker on the topic of equity crowdfunding, prominent angel investors, as well as select group of local up-and-coming startups from the Asian Pacific region with an aim of providing awareness on new methods of capital financing for businesses whilst also identifying quality seed-stage deals for investors. SCxSC is targeted at investors, startups and the public who would like to learn more about the rise of alternative finance such as equity crowdfunding.
SCxSC is brought to you jointly by Securities Commission Malaysia, MULTIMEDIA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (MDeC), Cradle Fund, Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN) and #edGY and is supported by MAYBANK.

Josh Daniell is the Co-Founder and Head of Platform at Snowball Effect, New Zealand’s leading equity crowdfunding platform. Snowball Effect helps high growth Kiwi companies to raise funds from the public, and then helps those companies harness the power of their crowds. Snowball Effect has set the equity crowdfunding record in New Zealand earlier this year, by raising NZ$1.5 million in six days for Aeronavics,an innovative company manufacturing drones.
Josh began his professional career as a corporate lawyer with a focus on M&A, public securities offers, and commercial law. Building on his passion for early stage businesses and the fast-growing crowdfunding phenomenon, Josh joined the Snowball Effect as employee #1 in 2013.
Chris Leong is the current Chief Strategy Officer at Soft Space. A technology enthusiast, he played a part in building the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Malaysia. His experience ranges from being involved in growing struggling start-ups into successful companies, to kick-starting the early stage funding ecosystem with Cradle Fund.
With his past experience, he is able to assist Soft Space in expanding its business regionally. Soft Space is currently deemed the leading Mobile Point-of-Sales (mPOS) provider in the South East Asian region, marking its presence in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.
Dr V. Sivapalan
MALAYSIAN BUSINESS ANGEL NETWORK (MBAN)
Dr Siva is the current President of the Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN). He is also the co-founder and Chief Evangelist of Proficeo Consultants, the programme manager for the Cradle Coach and Grow Programme (CGP). He currently invests in and mentors several companies in the ICT & Medical Device fields and is on the Cradle CIP500 Approval Committee.
Dr Siva has 30 years experience as a successful Entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship has been his life’s work. Many failures but learnt the most valuable lessons from failures and got up each time he fell. Successful exits meant an early retirement and is now a Mentor, Coach and Investor in entrepreneurial ventures.
Amran is the CIO for International Business and Head of Innovation at MAYBANK. He is responsible for raising the bar on Innovation within MAYBANK. His team collaborates across all businesses and geographies, internal and external to MAYBANK, in finding new innovative opportunities. He was formally a Partner at Accenture, leading the Technology Consulting group in Malaysia and Infrastructure Consulting in South East Asia.
Ng Wan Peng
MULTIMEDIA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (MDeC)
Ms Ng Wan Peng is the Chief Operating Officer of MULTIMEDIA DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (MDeC). Her areas of responsibility include Corporate Governance, Information Intelligence & Analytics and Corporate Performance.
Under her care are the different operational divisions, i.e. Industry Developments, specifically the Creative Multimedia, Infotech, Global Business Services, Critical Enablers including Talent, Innovation Capital as well as Digital Enablement and Customer Service. She also oversees the Digital Malaysia implementation as part of MDeC’s new mandate moving forward.
She has more than 20 years’ Industry experience. She has extensive experience in managing large-scale projects, in the areas of Strategic IT Planning, Project Management, Systems Integration, and Methodologies Development. Ms Ng has consulted for both private and public sector organizations in IT policy and project implementation in government, defense and education sectors in Malaysia and abroad.
Edmund Yong is an angel investor and the Managing Partner of ACCEL-X, a venture capital fund that invests in seed and early-stage technology companies.
With extensive C-Level operational experience in both private and listed companies, Edmund has been able to help numerous companies survive, grow, and scale. His philosophy is to act as a partner to start-up companies, helping them understand their market, develop their strategies, recruit talent and execute.
His previous experience includes serving as the Group CE and Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Markono, a complete logistics solution for publishers; the COO and CIO of ACCS, a reverse logistics company focused on mobile phone repair; and the CFO and CIO of Raffles Medical Group, the only wholly integrated healthcare group in Singapore providing primary to tertiary care. He was also the first employee of EDB investments, an SGD $4B fund, where he headed the successful Mobile Commerce Venture Fund, investing in companies within China, Japan, Korea, Finland, Sweden, France, and Singapore.
Edmund also currently serves as Mentor at NUS Enterprise, helping to provide support to student entrepreneurs and strategic advice to management.
Joel Neoh is listed as one of Asia's Top 10 young entrepreneurs. Born to a family of educators, Joel started his first company at age 20 while studying engineering in university, won Malaysia's version of 'The Apprentice' at 23, and has built and exited 2 tech companies; Groupsmore to Groupon in 2011 (E-commerce) and merged Says.com with Catcha Media in 2013 (Digital Media). He won the Ernst & Young Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year and was Head of Asia Pacific for Groupon. Passionate about technology, he has also invested into a string of technology venture capital funds and startups across Asia.
Being one of the founding members of the Groupon business in Asia, he has been instrumental in the establishment of the fastest growing business model ever (by Forbes) throughout Asia Pacific, a multibillion dollar region for Groupon in just under 5 years. With over thousands of employees across 12 countries including Japan, Australia, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia; Joel is a big believer in building a world-class work culture, where the organizations he led has won the WorldBlu Most Democratic Workplaces in 2013 and Best Place to Work by Glassdoor in 2012.
Joel sits on the board of public listed Rev Asia, Monash School of Business and AIESEC the world’s largest student organization. He was also recognized by the Prime Minister of Malaysia with the Malaysian Service Medal, listed as Top 40 under 40, and was named to the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders Alumni. Having completed his studies in Harvard Business School, and lived across a number of Asian countries including Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, Sydney, Singapore - Joel is passionate about democratizing technology to enhance and impact the life of millions of consumers across Asia.
Mr Getty Goh is the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of CoAssets. He has a Masters of Real Estate as well as a Bachelors of Building from the National University of Singapore. In 2012, Getty was awarded the Successful Entrepreneur Platinum Award as well as Promising SME 500 Platinum Award. Getty is also an accomplished writer and speaker. He is frequently invited to share insights on the Singapore property market at public seminars. Apart from that, Getty contributes regularly to Sunday Times, Property Report magazine, IProperty.com, Yahoo.com, etc.
CoAssets is South East Asia’s leading crowdfunding platform with offices in Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. With a registered funder base of more than 10,000, CoAssets has done more than RM25million worth of real estate crowdfunding deals. The company is also on track to be listed on an Australian Stock Exchange in the second half of 2015 and will be one of the first listed crowdfunding platforms in the region.

Angel Academy @MBAN
The Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN) is the official trade association and governing body for angel investors and angel clubs in Malaysia. It strives and aims to put forward the agenda of angel investing in an all-inclusive manner for the benefit of members, the angel ecosystem and start-ups.
MBAN is responsible for the accreditation of individual angel investors and angel investors clubs, creating awareness and training for angel investors, as well as monitoring angel investment statistics in Malaysia.
MBAN’s vision is to become the official voice of the Malaysian angel investor community as well as a platform for engagement and knowledge sharing for domestic and international angel investors. It also aims to foster the development of angel investing ecosystem within Malaysia.

Workshop 1: pitchIN
pitchIN is Malaysia’s premier crowdfunding platform. Launched in June 2012, pitchIN has seen numerous individuals and teams successfully executing a slew of ground-breaking crowdfunding projects such as the first on-demand movies venture, Movie GoGo, the pitchIN-MaGIC Challenge that saw the development of a stroke rehabilitation machine and also the largest successfully crowdfunded campaign for SE Asia; an all Malaysian creative arts festival TAPAUFest 2014.
The founders have also launched WatchTower and Friends (WTF) Sdn Bhd, a tech start-up accelerator that launched in January 2015 with its first batch of 7 start-ups.

Workshop 2: Propellar Crowd+
Propellar Crowd+ is a regional VC-backed equity crowdfunding platform, bringing together Netrove Ventures Group, a regional tech-based venture capital firm and Propellar Corporation Ltd, architect and developer of the platform. Propellar Crowd+ will collaborate with various government agencies in Malaysia and tap into various early-stage incubators and investing networking groups across the region to build a holistic funding eco-system and position Malaysia as the equity crowdfunding hub for ASEAN.

Workshop 6: Eureeca
Eureeca is the first global equity crowdfunding platform that allows businesses to raise capital from the “crowd” in exchange for equity, or company shares.
